About the Speaker:

Prof. Su-Wei Chang currently serves as an Associated Professor in the Department of Artificial Intelligence, Chang Gung University. She accquired a PhD in Applied mathematics and Statistics from State University of New York, Stony Brook, USA in 2009. She then spent two years doing postdoctoral research in Institute of Biomedical Sciences, Academia Sinica. And she joined Clinical Informatics and Medical Statistics Research Center, Chang Gung University in 2011.

Prof. Su-Wei Chang’s research specialties and directions include the application of statistical methods and artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in clinical and biomedical data, as well as the development of new statistical and AI-assisted analytical methods. Main focus includes: (1) multi-omics data analysis, such as genomics, proteomics, metabolomics data, and bioinformatics analysis in various diseases. (2) integration of omics and clinical data to construct clinical evaluation and disease prediction models. (3) big health data analysis, such as biobanks and health insurance databases through AI and longitudinal statistical analysis methods to develop analytical strategies and evaluation models for precision medicine.

Talk Abstract:
In 2016, AlphaGo's resounding victory over the world Go champion sparked a surge in AI investment. Six years later the advent of LLMs/GenAI, exemplified by OpenAI’s ChatGPT, stunned the world again, reaching a record 100 million users in just two months. Now, leading industry figures predict when AGI will arrive, with ethical concerns surrounding its development, such as misuse, intellectual property, and misinformation, plus likely jobs losing. The speaker will share his view on this from what he has learnt in the past. Moreover, what is its impact on each sector of the industry and the individuals? The high-tech industry has shifted from FAAMG to Mt. MANTAG AIOS. Is this a hype? GenAI in fact is an enabler of AI and it makes the impossible possible. What applications that industry is focus on? What’s the trend? Among others, Edge AI, Robotic Process Automation (RPC), and even no-code/low-code have constantly been mentioned for a long time but only until now they become a highly achievable reality. New computer/cloud architecture and extremely low power consumption solutions seem to be a necessity. As a venture capitalist, the speaker has been “soul-searching” trying to answer himself on questions such as, what kind of GenAI startups he would invest? With is, the recent Venture Capital (VC) investments in GenAI startups and their future interests will be covered. He will also take you to peep at current GenAI-related business as examples when possible. In addition, while Transformer-based LLMs have revolutionized the field over RNNs, there are still limitations to address. What’s the possible technological advancement which could propel the industry forward to the next level? This is an open question for everyone to consider. The opportunities may then follow.
